Mushroom Immune Complex Mushroom History
Shiitake, maitake, reishi, chaga, and turkey tail each have a long history in the traditional practices of Asia and northern Europe. Reishi has been prized in China for more than 2,000 years and was recorded in the earliest Chinese herbal texts. Shiitake and maitake were treasured as both food and medicine in China and Japan. Chaga, a dense growth on birch trees in cold northern forests, was brewed as a tea in Russia and Scandinavia for centuries.
Combining these mushrooms follows a long tradition. Traditional Chinese practice rarely relied on a single herb, and formulas were built to bring several ingredients together. In the 20th century, Japanese researchers studied the immune-related compounds in these species one by one. That work established beta-glucans as the main active compounds that tie these mushrooms together.
Mushroom Immune Complex Mushroom Uses
Each mushroom in this blend carries its own profile of beta-glucans and other compounds, such as the triterpenes in reishi and the betulinic acid in chaga. A blend gives consumers the range of five of the most studied functional mushrooms in a single ingredient, without having to choose between them or take several separate products. For brands, it means one line on the label that tells a broad, credible immune story.
Our mushroom extracts are commonly used as nutraceuticals and dietary supplements, and as a component ingredient in nutritional supplements and vitamins. They also go into many food and beverage products, including functional drinks, teas, coffee and coffee substitutes, bars, and powdered blends.
Proudly Made in China
In 1996, CEO and Founder of Nammex, Jeff Chilton organized organic mushroom production in China. That initiative paid off and today all Nammex mushrooms are grown or wildcrafted deep in the mountains of China by our Certified Organic production partners.

Not All Medicinal Mushrooms Products are Created Equal
US lab-grown Mushroom Immune Complex is not real Mushroom Immune Complex but Inonotus mycelium grown on grain. Analysis has shown that Inonotus mycelium on grain has low levels of beta-glucan, very high levels of starch and lacks secondary metabolites. Nammex only uses 100% organic Tiger’s Milk which are rigorously tested and guaranteed for active compounds.
